The view, ambiance, and service were all consistently top notch. Some of the food was good. Same with the kids menu, but expectations are much lower there. All said and done, the value is pretty high. They could charge 2x more and still get away with it.

I've enjoyed the Bali Hai before, and a friend was in town, so I took him here for the view and the food. View was amazing, watching the lights come on downtown. Food was unexpectedly great. Appetizer plate was great, hoisin beef was good, and his seared ahi was fine - I took some home and enjoyed it the next day! The famous Mai Tai was okay. I'm a tiki snob and I make a pretty good Mai Tai myself; these were well built and not too sweet, strong..

Food here was pretty good coming off a long boat day! They were busy as expected. I tried the coconut shrimp and fries. Both were great and filling!

Through the years, I have developed a very soft spot in my heart for the Bali Hai, and a much refined palate for the famous Bali Hai Mai Tai. I decided, that after all these years of going to the Bali Hai for various dinners, happy hours, events, and simply drinks by the fire pit, it was time for a review update. Well... the most striking feature to the Bali Hai is the location. Arguabley, it has one of the best views of San Diego. It is located on Shelter Island. For a local like myself, I feel like I am on vacation every time I head over there. The views from the windows are amazing, and if you walk around the back, you can get a a wider view of the bay and the skyline. On particular evenings, you can get a show from the Seaworld fireworks, which was a great addition to my aunt's 80th birthday dinner. One of my favorite things to do, is get one of their "world famous" Mai Tais and take it down to the fire pit and have a drink while looking at the view. The drinks are strong and they limit them to two per person. It took me a while to warm up to them, but now that Is my very favorite Mai Tai. I have a had a few family dinners there, which were always very nice. Service is usually very professional and polished. Recently, my cousin and I went for Restaurant Week, and had a wonderful experience. I did find it nice that they also offered their whole menu instead of simply the restaurant week prix fixe. They allowed us to get Mai Tais instead of dessert which was a plus. My seared ahi was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. My husband and I have attended the "I love Poke Fest" a few times. It gives us a taste of what it is like to have a private event at the Bali Hai. I really enjoy listening to music, sipping Mai Tais, and simply enjoying the views. And finally... I ablsuoluelty love the cheesy mid-century, tiki, postcard feel of the entire place. If you are visiting San Diego, I recommend a visit to the Bali Hai.

Food, drinks, views...it was all awesome. Service was especially great. Went to dinner with my wife for her birthday and got treated so well. Ricky was the best, he made my wife feel very special on her birthday with cake and oysters. Bali Hai is a San Diego institution that you shouldn't skip if you visit here.

Bali Hai is a classic San Diego spot! We started with a trio of appetizers--Edamame, Coconut Shrimp, and Calamari. All were pretty good. For my main dish, I had the Spicy Short Rib Yakisoba, and it was very good. The noodles were packed with flavor, and the short rib was tender. Aside from the food, the views at Bali Hai are great as well. The service was also excellent--friendly, and attentive. I do want to come back and try their famous Mai Tai's I've heard so much about!
